SAHIWAL MEDICAL COLLEGE

Sahiwal is an old district of Punjab (now a division), having a rich agriculture based economy and is famous for its educational institutions.Feeling the utmost need of a medical College in the area Sahiwal Medical College was established in 2010. Chief Minister Punjab laid the foundation stone of Sahiwal Medical College. College started functioning in November 2010. 

Punjab Government allotted 62 acres of land near Central Jail Sahiwal for the college, where the campus is in the final phases of furnishing/completion at the cost of Rs. 1 billion. The classes of MBBS were started at the Paramedical School of the DHQ Hospital Sahiwal but shifted to this new campus in December 2014. 

                                      The college is attached with DHQ Teaching Hospital Sahiwal and government Haji Abdul Qayyum Hospital for teaching purpose.The teaching faculty under the guidance of Principal, Professor Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed is committed to medical student’s academic excellence and training. 

                                     The students have produced outstanding results in University Exams each year. Co- curricular activities and events are equally emphasized and regularly held.This new state of art campus of Sahiwal Medical College Sahiwal spread over 62 acres of land equipped with multi-story Academic block, Administrative block, Library, IT labs, Conference room, Lecture theatres and Laboratories is near completion. Process of electrification and gas supply is in progress. 

                                      The college is recognized by the PM & DC while the so far held examinations have been conducted by the University of Health Sciences, Lahore. On 12th May 2012 Sahiwal Medical College Sahiwal was granted an autonomous status. The college enrolls 100 students each year in MBBS program. 

                                      For the purpose of clinical teaching and training, currently it is attached with the 438-bed DHQ Hospital. Besides, it is linked with the 72-bed Govt. Haji Abdul Qayyum Hospital and Mini Hospital Ghalla Mandi Shiwal. The construction work of state of the art main building, different departments, boys and girls hostels, and cafeteria of this institution is speedily in progress at area of 61 acres at a total covered area of 304,396 SFt
